Tomer Westman is an Israeli pianist whose work spans the classical concert repertoire, contemporary music, and historical performance. He performs as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral pianist, exploring the distinctive possibilities of each.

A prizewinner of numerous competitions, Tomer received first prize at the Andrée Charlier Competition (2024) and was a laureate of the Liège Piano Competition (2024) and Durlet Piano Competition (2025). He has performed with major orchestras in Belgium and Israel, including the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, Vlaams Symfonisch Orkest, Israel Camerata Jerusalem, Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion, and Israel Chamber Orchestra. Recent concerto highlights include Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with the Emeritus Orchestra under Leonti Wolff, Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with ORCW under Vahan Mardirossian, and Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1 with the VSO under Bart Van Casteren.

An avid contemporary music performer, Tomer regularly collaborates with the Israeli Contemporary Players, Israel’s leading contemporary ensemble. With them he has performed Israeli commissions and works by composers including Xenakis, Webern, Reich, Rebecca Saunders, and Unsuk Chin. He has also taken masterclasses with the renowned Ensemble Recherche. His contemporary work reflects a deep interest in new sound worlds and in creating dialogues between modern and traditional repertoire.

Tomer studied at Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts and the Givataim Conservatory in the piano studio of Mrs. Sara Tal. He earned his bachelor’s degree with distinction at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music (Tel Aviv University) in the class of Professor Tomer Lev and completed his Master’s degree Magna Cum Laude at the Royal Conservatory Antwerp under Professor Sergei Edelmann. As a graduate of the excellence programs of the Jerusalem Music Centre, he performed in solo and chamber concerts broadcast live on Israel’s national “The Voice of Music” radio station.

Alongside piano, Tomer has studied harpsichord with Korneel Bernolet and collaborated with Baroque violin specialist Kati Debertzeni and members of the Freiburg Barouque Orchestra. He has participated in numerous international festivals and masterclasses, including the Uelzen Summer Academy, Tel-Hai International Master Classes (Israel), Bach300 Festival (Leipzig), Internationale Musikakademie für Solisten (Bückeburg), Music Fest Perugia, and the Young Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. He has had the privilege of learning from and performing for musicians such as Menahem Pressler, Murray Perahia, Bernd Goetzke, Michel Beroff, Vladimir Ovchinnikov, Miriam Fried, Leif Ove Andsnes, Ilana Vered, and Pascal Nemirovsky.

 

Tomer has received excellence scholarships from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation and Inspiratum.
